Take a step back from your kitchen and look at how the space flows (or perhaps doesn't flow) with the main living spaces of your home. When thinking about the lighting layout consider how much natural light the space gets and at what times of the day. The natural light should be enhanced by the lighting in your kitchen, and only enhance the already bright space. At night the lighting should change the feeling of the kitchen, and give a moody ambiance. Having the rght balance of lighting will give your kitchen that wow factor just like you see on HGTV.
Where you see your kitchen in other spaces means you'll want to make sure it's beautifully lit. Enter pendant lights. If you want to make a statement big or small, then selecting the right pendants for your kitchen will be key. While you don't want to take away and distract from the overall design of your kitchen, you want pendants to be the jewelry. A tip on pendants, make sure the scale of the light(s) aren't too much, or too little for the kitchen. If you have high ceilings, choose larger lights with a longer chain to create drama.

Remember that lighting is one of the easiest cosmetic changes to make. If your kitchen needs a refresh then maybe switching out existing recessed lights for pendants over an island is the perfect low cost solution. Light fixtures can be sourced from so many stores, one of the greatest places to find unique, and well-priced fixtures is Homesense or Marshalls. Always keep your eyes out because you may just find the perfect light for your kitchen.
